The Cabcharge Digital Pass is a digital taxi payment solution sent straight to your phone via SMS or email. You add it to your Apple W allet or Google Pay, then tap to pay at the end of your trip. Who is the Digital Pass best suited for?

The Digital Pass works best for staff, contractors or guests who travel by taxi occasionally rather than regularly. A good example is a contractor on a short-term project, a client you need to get to an airport or staff attending a one-off company event. You issue it through Cabcharge+, our free online portal. Set your spending rules, and it arrives on their phone in seconds.

How does the Cabcharge Digital Pass work?

The Cabcharge Digital Pass is managed entirely through Cabcharge+. Issuing a pass takes seconds, and trip data is recorded automatically once travel is complete. Here’s how it works:

  • Log in to Cabcharge+ and issue a Digital Pass to the person travelling via SMS or email.
  • They add it to their digital wallet directly from the link they receive. Apple Wallet and Google Pay are both supported. Samsung Pay is not compatible.
  • At the end of the trip, they hold their phone up to the in-taxi Cabcharge PIN pad for a contactless payment at drop-off.
  • The fare is recorded in your Cabcharge+ account in real time, including trip details and an itemised receipt. No manual data entry needed.

How to add a Cabcharge Digital Pass to Apple Wallet or Google Pay

Once a Cabcharge Digital Pass is issued to you through Cabcharge+, you will receive an SMS or email with a link. The whole setup takes less than a minute and works on iPhone or Android. On Android, Google Pay needs to be set as your default payment method. Samsung Pay is not compatible.

Once your pass is saved to your phone, you’re ready to pay by tapping your phone on the in-taxi Cabcharge PIN pad at the end of your trip. Here’s how to get it set up:

Can I set spending limits and expiry dates on a Digital Pass?

Yes, and that level of control is one of the most practical features of the Digital Pass. When you issue one through your Cabcharge account, you decide the fare limit per trip, how many trips the pass covers and when it expires. Each pass can cover up to 32 trips, and if you don’t set an expiry date, it defaults to 12 months.

If a fare ends up exceeding the limit you set, the person travelling simply pays the difference using another payment method on the spot. Everything else is taken care of automatically.

Your cost control settings are locked in before the pass even leaves your account. All trip records feed straight into Cabcharge+, so your finance team has what they need for travel management and expense management without chasing anyone for receipts.

Do I get a receipt when I use a Digital Pass?

Yes. Every Digital Pass trip generates an itemised receipt automatically and sends it to your Cabcharge+ online portal the moment payment is processed. There’s no need to ask the Driver for a paper receipt after the trip.

What makes this useful for managing travel expenses is the detail included in each receipt. Unlike a standard credit card transaction, Cabcharge receipts include the traveller's name, trip details, fare breakdown, date and time. That’s exactly what your finance team needs for reconciliation. You can view, sort and export all of this directly from Cabcharge+ without following up with anyone.

What's the difference between a Cabcharge Digital Pass and an eTicket?

The main difference between a Cabcharge Digital Pass and an eTicket is how the pass gets to the person taking the trip.

You need a Cabcharge account to get started. Applying online takes a few minutes, and your account is activated within 1 to 2 business days. Here’s how the process works from sign-up to your first issued pass:
